Colchester centre-back Matt Heath has suffered a fresh injury setback ahead of the trip to Leyton Orient in npower League One.
Heath finally returned to the bench for last weekend's disappointing 2-1 home defeat to bottom club Chesterfield having overcome a groin injury.
But the defender, who would otherwise have been in contention for a starting berth at Brisbane Road, picked up a new groin strain in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Monday and now has been forced back to the sidelines.
Manager John Ward is likely to have striker Kayode Odejayi available after a sore ankle ruled him out against the Spireites, while loanee Gavin Massey could make his full debut having been introduced off the bench last Saturday.
Winger Ashley Vincent (hamstring) continues to make progress with his recovery but is not yet ready to return.
