Tim Krul admits he cannot believe how Newcastle have gone 43 years without winning a major trophy.
The 23-year-old Holland international has spent the last six and a half years on Tyneside watching a club he regards as one of the biggest in English football fail to end a drought which dates back to the 1969 European Fairs Cup triumph.
They will resume their quest for silverware when they head for npower Championship Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round with Krul convinced they can make an impact in the competition.
Asked if he was surprised at the Magpies lack of silverware in recent years, he said: "Yes, because it's got all the attributes - the stadium, the fans...
"If you see the clubs who have won prizes, I can't see why we can't get to the FA Cup final or push on as a top-six team. I have said it for years now, that Newcastle has got everything to be one of the top teams, and we are showing that this season."

WELL HE'S THE ONLY FCUKKER WHO IS!! LOL
Hey guys. Spare a thought for poor Darlington. It's truly awful what's happening down there. But you know. They've moved into a stadium that's really too big for the club, and they've been living beyond their means for a long time. So now they're in real trouble. I fear it could be little Sunderland next
John, led by who then. ???
Don't be surpriesd Tim............Newcasshole are Shyte!!!!!!!!
come on brighton
43 years since the fairs cup more like an egg cup that one
Its More Like nearly sixty years since the toonies won a real trophy
Not Many teams can boast back to back defeats in the FA CUP like that lot
Led by U NO HU !!!!!
Andrew, your players who can defend have a worse goals against than SAFC, who your pals usually call shyte !!! Another deluded mag!!!
Er Tim, no real surprise here - I think it may have something to do with them being rubbish
Our club has always had the potential to be challenging but through poor running of the club and a succession of bad managers we fell away!!
The rot started when Dalglish took over he took a team that should have been champions that just needed a centre back who could actually defend instead he got rid of the flair players and replaced them with garbage and more defenders who could not defend!!!Hope he brings Liverpool down as well!!
But this is the first time ever i can remember us having a sound business model and players who want to play for the club and players who can defend(barring last week at Fulham before the Mackems get on here whining!!)
I actually enjoy watching the Toon play every week !!
