McCann poised for Posh return

Captain Grant McCann is expected to return to the Peterborough starting XI when Portsmouth visit London Road.

McCann made his comeback from a knee injury as a second-half substitute against Brighton last weekend, replacing on-loan Scott Wootton, who has since returned to Manchester United. The Northern Ireland international is now likely to start a game for the first time since suffering his injury at Leicester in December.

Fellow midfielder Lee Frecklington is also fit to return to the squad following a five-week absence after undergoing groin surgery.

An infected leg kept George Boyd out against Brighton but the forward should be available again, while Irish midfielder Danny Kearns could come back into the reckoning after he was rested against the Seagulls.

Manager Darren Ferguson is considering recalling Paul Jones in goal on Saturday after feeling Joe Lewis was at fault for both Brighton goals in the 2-1 defeat last weekend.

He said: "Everyone knows we have two good Championship goalkeepers and Joe Lewis has done very well since he returned to the side. But he should have saved both the goals and that is something I will have to look at."
