Refs are fatigued - Mancini

Fri, 27 Jan 10:27:34 2012

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini accepts decisions will go against his club - because referees can also get tired.

In recent games City have conceded a costly penalty in Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final exit at Liverpool and seen striker Mario Balotelli etrospectively banned for four matches for violent conduct for an offence not punished on field by the referee against Tottenham last weekend.

City have also had to deal without captain Vincent Kompany for four matches after a controversial sending-off, and Mancini said: "I think playing a lot of games is also difficult for them (referees). The refs sometimes are tired - to play every two or three days is difficult for the players, and for the referee. The referee is like me, like the players. They can be tired sometimes."

Mancini, however, does not think his team are the victims of any conspiracy, only bad luck.

He said: "Yes, yes - in December and January, it is only this way."

Defender Micah Richards, who conceded the penalty at Anfield for handball when the ball rebounded off his foot on to his arm, also believes City have had more than their fair share of bad decisions.

The 23-year-old suggests the club's now prominent position, as Barclays Premier League leaders, might be costing them the benefit of any doubt.

Richards said: "I wouldn't say everyone is against us, but when a team comes from nowhere and is doing so well, top of the league, you are going to get decisions against you.

"We don't think everyone is against us. We have coped well getting this far in the season, and you could argue some decisions could have been dealt with better but we can't dwell on them."

  1. #11 thats not the point and does in no way affect anything. You might as well apply that to all penalty decisions, all fouls, all the rules of football. Jesus @#$% christ ???!!!! You have no business watching or supporting football with that statement.

    minimum extra time is MINIMUM EXTRA TIME!!!
    3-3
    the ref blew the whistle before the end of minimum extra time.
    He broke the rules of the game.
    There was no apology or inquiry.
    It was blatant cheating by the ref and no action taken by FA or referees means CORRUPTION.

    You really are an idiot/ Day after day the same old rhetoric always complaining about the non existant corruption and its always aimed at man United your bigger and better neighbour. Very rarely do you have anything sensible to say much like your conspiracy friend Michael. I guess you are an ardent UFO fan as well and probably believe in fairies and any other conspiracy that you can think of. Your life must be so sad that it revolves totally around these types of theories. Theories without proof or any form of evidence apart from your tiny addled mind.

    Every yellow card all 25 of them and 5 red cards are all caused by conspiracy or is it a fact that you cannot accept that Man City are one of the dirtiest teams in the Premier league?

  8. I have to admit that refs repeatedly make bad calls. They are humans and don’t have the benefit of replay and slow-motion. They also get tired as well and are bias against some players. Which one of us has not been judged by past actions? Isn’t that what happens when you send your resume to a job opening? Don’t they judge you based on your employment history? Why should footballers be judged under different criteria? Once tainted as violent you lose the benefit of the doubt.

    I’m not a soccer expert by any means, but when a team spends a total of 439.4 million pounds net over 5 seasons on players, we can hardly say that the team has come from nowhere to the top of the league. Don’t get me wrong. I congratulate all City fans because their team has this kind of money to spend during a financial crisis in which many of these same fans have lost their jobs, and the country is on the brink of double deep recession (if not in already). I wish my team had this kind of cash as well. Compare to other teams net expenditure on players over the past 5 years:

    Arsenal: -32.3 million pounds;
    Chelsea: 155.7 million pounds;
    Manchester United: 49.95 million pounds;
    Liverpool: 67.55 million pounds;

    These 4 big teams combined spent a total of 240.9 million pounds net with is 54.82% of the amount spent by Manchester City over the same period of time. As you can see, Manchini doesn’t really know what he is talking about. City is not on the top of the table coming from nowhere. They are spending their way to a championship. Moreover, this is ok, no problem but please don’t play the victim card. It’s just hypocritical.

  9. Typical manure making it all about themselves. Big ego????

    This is about attitude, bias and corruption of refs when making a decision and typically we find that the letter of the law is applied to teams outside the 'big 4' manure, loserpooh, arsenal and chelski but not to the 4.

    I still return to one of the most glaring displays of corruption seen
    Everton vs Manure - goodison 11th sept 2010

    BLATANT CORRUPTION OF REFEREES
    Brushed over by all critical media sources. No questions asked of the ref. Moyes told to shut it.

    A@#$% DISGRACE

  10. Did Evans get sent off against man city? and did scholes get sent off in the FA CUP
    semi last season against you? and Rooney was suspended for that game because he swear at a camera?
    and your saying refs are bias and corrupt?

  11. it is basic referee bias and corruption

    If vidic does a last ditch tackle in the final of the carling cup in the first 10mins the ref immediately thinks

    "he wouldnt make a bad tackle. Vidic plays for manure"

    when Kompany cleanly won the loose ball between him and nani the ref immediaqtely thought

    "dirty sod trying to injure nani who is in red shirt. red card"

    I reckon he's next on the ref's hitlist
