Wed 27 Feb, 05:45 PM

Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford has been shortlisted for the Mitre Goal of the Year Award in the 2008 Football League Awards.Beckford's scintillating strike against Rotherham while on loan at Scunthorpe last season could see him pick up the gong.

During the League One clash on February 17, he cut in from the right wing before selling two defenders a dummy, dragging the ball back and smashing home a powerful curling shot into the top left-hand corner to leave the Millers stunned.

The on-loan Leeds frontman hit eight goals during his four-month spell at Glanford Park and helped the Iron gain promotion to the Championship.

Beckford's strike is one of five goals nominated for the award and he joins Chris Brunt, Chris Dickson, Rickie Lambert and Scott Sinclair on the shortlist for the award to be announced on Sunday March 2.
