Gills outcast gets chance with Imps

Wed 27 Feb, 04:00 PM

Out-of-favour Gillingham midfielder Aaron Brown has been offered a trial at League Two outfit Lincoln as he bids to end his Priestfield exile.Former England schoolboy international Brown, 27, has not made a first-team appearance for the Gills since boss Mark Stimson placed him on the transfer list following a dismal display in last month's 1-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy draw with MK Dons.

Brown was offered a financial settlement by the club last month but boss Stimson later withdrew the deal, and told the Medway Messenger: "Aaron, being a little inexperienced and naive, told somebody who he shouldn't have told. That got back to the chairman and since then that's been quashed."

But now he could link up with former Gills coach Iffy Onoura - who he also played under at Swindon - at Sincil Bank and will have the chance to prove himself in Wednesday's reserve match against Sheffield United.

Brown made close to 200 appearances for home town club Bristol City before joining QPR, Swindon and then Gillingham.
