Holmes salutes Saddlers spirit

Wed 27 Feb, 07:00 PM

Walsall's on-loan midfielder Lee Holmes believes the Saddlers' promotion bid can be attributed to the "superb" team spirit at the club.Holmes joined the Saddlers from Derby in mid-January, after their transformation from potential relegation candidates to a top six side.

Walsall were bottom of League One at the end of September after just one win in seven matches, and Holmes claims it is not difficult to understand how the turnaround occurred.

"Paul Boertien is a good friend of mine and I spoke to him a lot before I came so I know how the season has gone," the 21-year-old told the club's official website. "They hardly picked up a point in the first few games and then suddenly they went on an amazing run.

"As soon as I came I could see how it happened. There are good players here and the team spirit is superb. That made it really easy to settle in.

"The banter flies every morning and the dressing room is full of characters. Everyone seems to gel and that is a big factor behind what happens on the pitch. Hopefully it will help us to put another run together now."
