Crewe assistant manager Neil Baker has revealed the club are scouting a Championship striker in a view to signing the player on loan. The Railwaymen are inside the League One relegation zone by the virtue of goal difference and were beaten 1-0 by Carlisle on Tuesday night.
Having squandered a host of chances in that game, Crewe look to be ready to strengthen their forward line and have been linked with Norwich's Chris Martin as well as Clayton Donaldson from Hibernian.
Head scout Glyn Chamberlain watched the un-named player in action on Tuesday night and developments are expected in the next few days.
"Glyn watched a player last night and we will know a bit more about that on Wednesday," said Baker.
"Byron Moore hasn't produced the goals and that is our biggest problem at the moment - although our goals against column is looking better."
