Shrimpers hopeful over MacDonald

Wed 27 Feb, 03:45 PM

Charlie MacDonald should be available for Friday's clash with Cheltenham despite limping out of a reserves game with a recurring ankle injury. The striker was withdrawn four minutes from time in a 3-2 defeat for the reserves against Ipswich, after scoring one of the two Shrimpers goals.

But reserve team boss Dean Austin was certain the injury was not as serious as first thought.

"When it first happened we thought it was quite a serious injury," Austin told the club's official website.

"He twisted his ankle and took a whack on it at the same time. He had it all iced after the game and will have treatment on it for the next couple of days."

MacDonald has played 22 times for the Shrimpers this season, and appeared as a late substitute in last weekend's 3-0 win at Yeovil.
