Counago in dismissal disbelief

Thu 27 Mar, 03:45 PM

Ipswich striker Pablo Counago believes he has been made out to be "a criminal" after insisting he did not spit at Scunthorpe's Andy Butler.Counago was sent off along with Scunthorpe defender Jack Cork after an altercation in the 2-1 win and Iron manager Nigel Adkins labelled him "a disgrace" after accusing him of spitting.

But Counago told the club's official website: "Butler caught me in the face with his elbow.

"He cut my mouth and I had blood in my mouth. I did spit out the blood but not at his face. He was three or four yards away from me. It could not have happened.

"The comments from their manager have upset me. It makes out that I am a criminal.

"I have never spat at a player in my life. We did not deserve to be sent off, either of us. It was nothing."
