Holland coach Marco van Basten refused to lay the blame solely on goalkeeper Henk Timmer despite conceding three in the win over Austria. The Oranje found themselves 3-0 down after 35 minutes in Vienna, but Klaus-Jan Huntelaar (two), Johnny Heitinga and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink all struck to seal a stunning 4-3 win.
Van Basten admitted Timmer, who filled in for the absent Edwin van der Sar and Maarten Stekelenburg, played a part in Holland falling three goals behind but said other players in the team were also at fault.
"Personal mistakes meant we had to come from 3-0 down," he said. "So you can only be happy if you win in the end.
"John Heitinga did not defend well for Austria's first goal but Henk should have taken that ball.
"The other goals were scored from corners and Henk didn't look good in both cases but the defenders were not great either.
"Everyone has bad days," Van Basten added.
