Stand-in captain Emanuel Pogatetz believes Middlesbrough can upset Premier League title chasers Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Austrian international believes they must keep up their recent good form not only to ensure Premier League survival but to make sure that they hit the ground running at the beginning of next season.
He told the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette: "We set high standards with the Aston Villa and Arsenal performances and we maintained it against Derby.
"We want to keep that up and build a platform for next year as well. That is also important, we want to finish the season on a high."
Meanwhile, Pogatetz is set to continue as captain for the visit to Stamford Bridge, and insists he is thriving on the added responsibility.
And he added: "It's an honour and the first time I have captained a club. I've always been a young player but now I've got the captaincy it is really nice. We need a little bit of leadership and that's where I stepped forward last season and this season."
