LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Undefeated World Boxing Council welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather is in talks to fight a rematch against England's Ricky Hatton next year at London's Wembley Stadium.
Richard Schaefer, chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions, said discussions have started to bring Mayweather to England next spring in a rematch of the American's 10th-round stoppage of Hatton last December in Las Vegas.
"It's very likely that Floyd will come over next spring," Schaefer said. "Floyd and his manager, Al Hayman, are very serious about it. He wants to show that he will repeat what happened the first time. That's his motivation.
"Floyd realises Hatton is the most beloved fighter in the world and for him to come over to Wembley Stadium is making history."
Hatton would love a chance to avenge the only loss of his career, one he partly blames referee Joe Cortez for by halting the bout.
Mayweather, 39-0 with 25 knockouts, could make 20 million dollars for a planned September rematch with Oscar de la Hoya. Mayweather's split decision triumph last May in Las Vegas was the biggest moneymaking fight of all time.
"The first fight was great and while Floyd would have to get past Oscar first, he knows that Ricky has talked about the referee," Schaefer said.
Hatton, 43-1 with 31 knockouts, next fights on May 24 against Juan Lazcano of Mexico at Manchester in a England stadium hometown bout for "The Hitman".
