"Preparations are going good. I"ve just been at home for a week, enjoying some time out. I"ve kept away from it all and am now just keen to get racing again.

People talk about the atmosphere at Jerez, but you can't get any better than at Brands Hatch [in England]. I have raced there many times with crowds of 140,000, so I am looking forward to this weekend.

There is a similar atmosphere at Jerez. I think there were 210,000 people through the gate last year, and it is one of the biggest races of the year.

My experience with Yamaha Tech 3 and the bike has helped my smooth transition to MotoGP this year. The way the bike rides and the team's tips on riding it have made the difference.

My team-mate Colin Edwards [who has also won two World Superbike titles and got years of experience in MotoGP], has been less important to that change - but I know Colin well from our time together riding for the Castrol Honda team 10 years ago and things are going well.

It will be a difficult race. I'm looking forward to the new engine for sure, but we can compete this weekend. If we can qualify on the front two rows again then that would be great and give us a good chance of a podium.

I was more comfortable at Losail [in the first round] because I knew the track very well after years of racing there with Superbikes. However I've been racing the Jerez circuit on my Playstation game and I've also got a DVD of the track, which I've been using to learn it before I go out there.

It will be a bit different on the day though, with the crowd and the atmosphere!

I think Casey [Stoner] and [Jorge] Lorenzo are going very well at the moment. Lorenzo finished top two in Qatar and is looking good.

[Dani] Pedrosa has a chance, being Spanish too, while there are another five or six who can challenge us for the podium."
