France 1-0 England

Raymond Domenech: "I wanted a tough match against a top-class team and I got it.

"The English showed some good things and it was more of a thinking man's game than a spectacular one.

"But we did what he had to and leave here on solid ground.

"We could have had more imagination up front. Especially in the second half, we lost the ball a little too quickly and we were wasteful with our passing.

"The last pass we wanted to make did not go where we wanted."

Fabio Capello: "I told the players I am happy we made progress compared to Switzerland, even though we won that game.

"I'm happy I saw some very good things against a top-level team. That showed me what our worth is."

(On making four changes at halftime) "I made the team play two different ways so I could see many players. My ideas are now a lot clearer."

"I'm very happy about David Beckham. He played like I know how he can play. I only substituted him because I wanted to see other players and I know Beckham as a player very well."

"I'm happy that the team showed they didn't want to lose the game. They played right to the end. This was most positive thing considering the level of the opponent.

"Anelka and Ribery showed pace for them but I think we had more pace in the first half. We slowed down a bit though in the second half."

David Beckham: "The most important thing for me was to prove my fitness and I felt that I did that. I felt very fresh and a lot better than I thought I would.

"As much as you work hard in pre-season, there is nothing better than playing in games and I enjoyed it.

"Playing under Capello before, he knows what I'm like as a player so on that side, you don't have to prove anything but proving my fitness was good. That was the biggest thing."

(On rumours of his retirement) "I don't know where the rumours came from but they weren't from me. It is 100 not out as far as I am concerned. The wave at the end was not a goodbye, just a thank you.

"I spoke in the week about how honoured I would be to get to the 100-cap mark and I'm very proud. To achieve 100 caps doesn't happen every day and to have my family at the game, and the support of the fans, was incredible.

"The reception when I came off from both sets of fans was amazing. You obviously expect it off your own fans and I thank them for that but from the French people as well, it was an amazing standing ovation.

"I am very proud of that and, if there was another place I would have liked the game after Wembley, it would have been in Paris because it is where Zidane played. It is also one of my most favourite cities and I have a house in the South of France.

"As soon as a new manager comes in, there is always a period when it takes time to get going. But he was pleased with the fact we passed the ball around well and in the first half kept a lot of possession.

"But if you don't score in that time, teams like France are always going to capitalise on it - and they did."

Scotland 1-1 Croatia

George Burley: "Croatia are one of the top teams in Europe and we had to work very hard, which we did," he said.

"They started brightly and we conceded a goal but we hung in there and got back in the game. We showed a lot of character and overall I was very pleased with the commitment and the performance.

"The commitment showed and that has been the quality of the side in the last couple of years under Walter [Smith] and Alex [McLeish] and that's something we have to keep going and building on.

"They are a committed squad of players. They went down to a quality team and it was hard work but they stuck to their task and deservedly got a draw."

(On carrying momentum into World Cup qualifying): "It's always important. We missed out on qualifying in the last campaign but there were some very good performances.

"We are now in the build-up to the World Cup and it was a tough game tonight. We have another one at the end of May against the Czech Republic and it's another opportunity to work with the side.

"We learned a lot tonight about individuals and the team and that's what it's about. Each game is about learning a little bit more and having that belief against top sides in Europe.

"Hopefully we can take that into the World Cup qualifiers.

"It was an honour for me to manage my country so I'm going to try to enjoy it and work as hard as I can.

"There are areas we have to improve but I have a squad of players who are very committed and it's enjoyable working with that type of character."

Slaven Bilic: "It was a great test for us, it was exactly the one we wanted."

"We didn't just want to play a game and that is the reason I chose Scotland. It was a really competitive game and it was like a game for points.

"It was a big test for us and a good one for Scotland as well."

(On whether Scotland can look forward with optimism) "Definitely. Scottish football, domestically and internationally, is not the same as it was a few years ago.

"You (Scotland) were in a very hard (Euro 2008 qualifying) group with Italy, France and Ukraine and went to the last game to qualify and that should give you hope and show you need not be afraid of anyone.

"This is a hard place to come to. We have a good side and it was nowhere near an easy game. Scotland are a good team."

Luxembourg 0-2 Wales

John Toshack: (on Freddie Eastwood) "Some players don't take the opportunity when it comes along, but Freddy really grasped the chance to show what he can do.

"He is facing stiff competition at Wolves and probably hasn't completed 90 minutes in ages.

"But he's a good finisher and took his two goals very well. I am sure that will have done his confidence the world of good."

"I was pleased with the result and pleased with Eastwood.

"We had a few players like him who were short of match fitness out there, we have had to do that with so many players missing.

"But despite that there were plenty of positives, and he was one of them.

"When he had the chance to pull on the Wales jersey, he gave everything and scored two well-taken goals.

"It will have done him no harm to have played a full match. There is plenty of competition for places up front at Wolves, and this performance will do his confidence a world of good."

Northern Ireland 4-1 Georgia

Nigel Worthington: "That was very good and I'm very pleased.

"We put them under pressure, created chances and they showed me they could score goals.

"Everyone talks about the goals David Healy scores and rightly so, but we have shown there is more to our game than just that.

"David got a goal on his big night which was pleasing for everyone, but I was delighted for Kyle Lafferty to get a couple of goals and he knows he has to keep doing that.

"Peter Thompson is a player I have been very impressed with too, and his goal made me particularly pleased.

"But that was the team effort I have asked for. I wanted a high tempo and in the first half and that's exactly what I got. It was the real Northern Ireland."

(On George McCartney's absence due to the impending birth of his child): "George had to go and Jonny [Evans] would have been on the bench, but he took his opportunity and showed me if he needs to be called upon he is up to it.

"But it wasn't just Jonny. They all worked hard to put down the benchmark for what I want when the World Cup campaign starts in September."

Klaus Toppmoller: "We were 3-0 down so quickly and the game was over by half-time," he said.

"I can't take anything from the game other than we avoided a disaster with our performance after half-time.

"We were missing 10 players but I did want more. This was the first time anything like this has happened but at least we did improve.

"But we knew Northern Ireland would be strong at home as they have proved by beating Spain, Sweden and Denmark recently."
