McParland delighted to survive

Sun 27 Apr, 07:30 PM

Notts County boss Ian McParland admitted he was worried after Richard Butcher had fired his side ahead in the crucial 1-0 win against Wycombe. The former Peterborough midfielder's 12th goal of the season secured the club's Football League status but this was the first time he has finished on the winning side for County after hitting the target this term.

After Saturday's League Two clash at Meadow Lane, McParland said: "I thought when he scored that he had blown our chances of winning but fortunately it didn't work out that way."

He added: "We had a let-off with (Scott) McGleish's header early on and that made me think it might be our day.

"You get feelings about games as a player and manager and I had a good feeling about this one. I won't be going overboard with my celebrations but I am delighted for this football club and especially the supporters because they've had a tough time.

"But now at last we can start making plans for the next season and there's a big job to be done."
