Robinson: We have winning spirit

Sun 27 Apr, 01:30 PM

Paul Robinson hailed West Brom's fighting qualities as they go in search of the victory which would secure promotion to the Premier League. The Baggies take on Southampton at The Hawthorns on Monday night knowing a draw would almost certainly be enough to give them automatic promotion, as it would leave them three points above third-placed Hull with a game to go and +12 superior goal difference.

But a win over the struggling Saints would make absolutely sure and Robinson, who has been playing with a badly bruised ankle for the last fortnight and has required stitches to head wounds in two of Albion's last three games, believes his bumps and cuts are indicative of a side ready to scrap to reach the top flight.

"All the lads have been brilliant in that respect, especially after Wembley when everyone thought we would go on a downer," he told the club's official website.

"We've shown great determination and character and didn't let the semi-final defeat get us down.

"We've looked a solid unit in recent games.

"The way we've defended and put our bodies on the line has been fantastic."

Southampton need a win too to clamber out of the Championship relegation zone, and Stern John is determined to fire the goals to get Saints out of trouble.

"I have not been at this end of the Championship for a long time and it is a very different kind of pressure from chasing promotion," he told .

"I have played under pressure all my career so it does not bother me. I just need to compose myself, relax and everything will fall into place.

"Every time I step onto the pitch I feel like I will score. I

will always get a chance at some stage in the game, it is a question of waiting for it and making it count.

"I love scoring goals so I don't feel under any real pressure. I will play my normal game and try my best to score."
