Santa Cruz: We'll fight to the end

Sun 27 Apr, 04:45 PM

Roque Santa Cruz says Blackburn will fight for an Intertoto Cup spot "until the end" after they kept their bid alive with a win at Portsmouth.Santa Cruz played a one-two with fellow striker Jason Roberts before firing past goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown in the 73rd minute of what had been a turgid Premier League encounter at Fratton Park on Sunday.

The Paraguayan said: "I think we saw how the game was, we hadn't played well enough to win the game.

"I think we went in (at half-time) and remembered we're playing for a lot of things today and then we were a different team."

Of the goal, Santa Cruz said on Sky Sports 1: "It was nice play by Morten (Gamst Pedersen), me and Robbo and I think it was a great finish as well.

Rovers cannot realistically finish fifth in the Premier League but an Intertoto place remains a possibility and Santa Cruz inists they will fight until the last day.

"It gives us chance to keep fighting for a place in Europe and we will until the end," he added.

"It was our main business for this season. It's nice in the last two games that we still have something to fight for."
