Simon Grayson hopes to have Blackpool's Championship place secure despite losing 3-0 at Plymouth when they face Watford next weekend.Rory Fallon's double helped keep Plymouth on course for their highest league finish for 20 years as they defeated the struggling Seasiders.
The defeat left Blackpool needing a win in their final game at home to the Hornets. However, if Southampton lose to West Brom on Monday, Grayson's side will be safe anyway.
"You can't get away from the fact that if Southampton don't beat West Brom then we are safe, so we will be looking at it, hoping West Brom win it and then we can look forward to the Watford game in a relaxed manner," he said.
"Where we are in the division, other results have gone against us and obviously our goal difference has taken a little bit of a battering.
"If West Brom beat Southampton on Monday night then we are safe but it doesn't get away from the fact that it was a disappointing result and a disappointing performance."
The Pilgrims made the perfect start when Jermaine Easter took advantage of some sloppy defending from Blackpool to fire them ahead after only four minutes.
Blackpool then left Fallon unmarked to head home Luke Summerfield's corner midway through the first half as the home side took control of the game.
Ten minutes after half-time Fallon rose to meet another pinpoint ball from Summerfield to seal the points and keep Plymouth in tenth place.
Argyle boss Paul Sturrock - who earlier in the week had revealed his retained list - said: "It was nice to finish with a win at home.
"It was good for all of us after the week that we have had. I never like this week but now it is over and we can all move on.
"It was good that both the strikers got on the scoresheet. I was pleased for Rory and Jermaine.
"Luke Summerfield's deliveries from set pieces was what we have been working on all week and today they worked a treat.
"Rory is looking more like it now.
"He now appreciates what he has got to do and is enjoying his football because of it."
