The purpose of abuse and name calling - any abuse or­ name calling - is to put the target off their game.­ Although it may sound it at the time, it is rarely­ personal, it is a way of venting frustration and­ hopefully has the effect of affecting the player­ concerned. I have to say though, when fans get­ 'upset' at getting anything back it makes me­ laugh at these wimps and is another example of what is­ wrong with the world - there are seemingly no­ consequences for any actions and if there are any, then­ people simply cry.
