Plymouth defender Mat Doumbe is hoping for more first-team football under Paul Sturrock after agreeing a new two-year deal at Home Park. The Frenchman made just 14 appearances for the Devon club last season and the 28-year-old admits he assessed his options before committing to the club.
He told the club's official website: "I just wanted to see what was going to happen.
"Sometimes when you have been somewhere a long time, you just want to push yourself a little bit more and sometimes the way to do that is to leave.
"To be fair I am really happy in everything - the league, the town, the dressing room here - but last season was not a good season for me.
"I felt I was left out too much. I worked hard all year and felt I deserved more games, but I didn't get the chances, especially in the first part of the season. I will try to do better this year."
