League One new boys Scunthorpe have rejected Burnley boss Owen Coyle's improved offer of £550,000 for striker Martin Paterson. The Iron turned down a £400,000 bid for the 21-year-old a fortnight ago, and have now rebuffed the Lancashire side's second approach.
Burnley offered £450,000 up front with another £50,000 after 30 appearances and a further £50,000 once Paterson had played 60 games for the Clarets.
Burnley also offered a further instalment based on the club gaining promotion to the Premier League.
Paterson is a top transfer target for Coyle after scoring 14 goals for the relegated Iron in the Championship last season.
Ian Baraclough, meanwhile, has signed a new one-year deal to become first-team coach at Scunthorpe.
The deal also includes a pay-as-you-play option for the 37-year-old midfielder, who is set to focus more on his off-field duties next season.
Andy Crosby will remain as assistant to manager Nigel Adkins while Kevin Pressman will also remain at Glanford Park as goalkeeping coach.
