Shampagne could be handed the chance to pop a few corks at Royal Ascot as Paul Cole assesses his options with the speedy juvenile.
The son of Orpen recorded an impressive success at Pontefract last week when he had to concede weight to his rivals in a race won by the likes of Sir Xaar and Hellvelyn in recent years.
Although his main target is the ultra-valuable DBS £300,000 St Leger Yearling Stakes at York on August 21, Shampagne could come under consideration for the Coventry Stakes next month after appreciating the step up to six furlongs last time.
"He has come out of his race from the other day fine and his main target will be the big sales race," confirmed the Whatcombe trainer.
"He could have a crack at Royal Ascot as well though as he likes the six furlongs and he is a fine, long-striding and straightforward horse.
"He is very uncomplicated really and the further they went last time the better he was going."
