Championship - Martinez: McCarthy too expensive

Swansea have pulled out of the race to sign Hamilton midfielder James McCarthy.

FOOTBALL Hamilton midfielder James McCarthy, named PFA Scottish Young Player of the Year. Swansea ended their interest in the 18-year-old, saying he was too expensive. - 0

The Championship side were keen to bring the 18-year-old PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year to the Liberty Stadium.

But manager Roberto Martinez admitted that McCarthy is out of of his price range.

"Right now, James McCarthy would be an impossible task for us financially," Martinez told the South Wales Evening Post.

Celtic and Portsmouth have both had bids for McCarthy rejected in the past month.
