New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, out injured since the first game of last season, has said he is confident of being fit to start the new NFL campaign in September.

Brady had his left knee surgically reconstructed after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 7.

"(I am) as confident as anyone could be that I'll be ready to play, back to playing normally, when the seasons starts," Brady told Sports Illustrated.

"I've done everything I could to push myself, sometimes too hard. Right now, I'm doing everything. Literally everything. There's nothing I can't do," he added.

Without Brady, the Patriots, Super Bowl winners in 2001, 2003 and 2004, failed to make the play-offs last season.

The twice-Super Bowl MVP is back in light training and has found it hard to be out of the game for so long.

"When you are not playing, you realise you would (gladly) do any of that, whatever they wanted me to do," he said.

"I tell you what I am looking forward to: practice. Screw the games, they take care of themselves.

"I want to be out there with my guys. I am so anxious to get out there and practise."
