Edu blasts Loovens `malice'

Wed, 27 May 10:00:26 2009

Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu has branded as "malicious" a Glenn Loovens challenge on him in the final Old Firm derby of the season.

Edu initially felt the Celtic defender had accidentally raked studs down the back of his knee during the May 9 Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash at Ibrox.

But having since watched replays of the incident, Edu has changed his mind,

"When it happened, I thought Loovens had kicked the ball away and had just followed through," said Edu of the incident, which has been referred to the Scottish Football Association's disciplinary committee.

"But, when I saw the replay, it looked a little bit more malicious. It was definitely sore right up to a couple of days afterwards."

  14. Pt5...Well said Gerry O....dont worry when we get the League back next year the rangers fans will be blaming it on incidents like this...they are already stating that when laugherrty is suspended for 6 matches at the beginning of the season that the SPL/SFA have it in for them.....

  15. This is getting out of control. I am all for video evidence, however, they now need to get back to work and ready for next season. Loovens had a boot... so what. Lafferty fell down ... so what it's just as bad as a dive. Just because it's the Old Firm they will investigate. If this involved Falkirk and Dunde, it would not see the light of day. These people just like the publicity. Let's get back to Football, this would not have happened when Chalmers and Greg were booting each other up and down the park.
Grow up everyone and stop complaining about stuff that should never be in the news anyway.

  16. Are we not getting the facts right here...Did Edu miss any games through this malicous tackle? Did Lee Wilkie miss any games?...

  17. you failed to mention the falling around antics of mc donald and co should thay be hounded also lafferty was bad but it would not have ended a fellow professionals career unlike the afor said loovens but you are right players do leave the boot in but his "TACKLE" was to maime and injure

  18. How can u even try and compare these 2 incidents what loovens did was wrong but players leave the boot in all the time. What Laugherty did was a disgrace and he should be hounded out of scottish football same as the Hearts player.

  19. Still no admittance or apology from Loovens - and nothing from Celtic either. Contrast that to the Lafferty incident and the actions of Lafferty and Rangers - shame on Loovens and Celtic.
