Hiddink told to feel 'proud' of Blues stint

Wed 27 May, 07:52 PM

Guus Hiddink will leave Chelsea after the FA Cup final with a glowing tribute from the club's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich.

The Dutchman will return to his main duties as coach of Russia after the Blues' end-of-season showpiece final against Everton at Wembley.

But win or lose, Hiddink has already received a pat on the back for his achievements from the Russian owner. Abramovich met Hiddink at the club's Cobham training ground just days after their controversial Champions League exit to Barcelona earlier this month and told the Dutchman he should be "proud" of his achievements in his short time at Stamford Bridge.

"The club have not spoken to me about staying because we knew what the situation was," said Hiddink.

"They know I have this full-hearted commitment in Russia and Roman is taking a lot of responsibility over there as he does here.

"After the game against Barcelona I was not in the best state of mind but then I had a conversation with him a day after or so at Cobham and I was still angry.

"But he told me to be proud because I had made a good impression worldwide with how we played against Barcelona - especially in the second game.

"Roman added that I should not be negative and be proud of what the team I have achieved here."

  1. Matty161281, I dont think there is anything going behind closed door in Russia regarding the Hiddink situation. Chelsea's owner Abramovich was the guy who help Russia pay for Hiddink in the first place. Hiddink was and STILL is the coach of Russian national team. The Russian allowed Abramovich to borrown Hiddink until the end of the season. But yeah, he's a good coach
