Tranmere striker Calvin Zola has joined League One rivals Crewe in a £200,000 switch to the delight of manager Ronnie Moore. The 23-year-old joined Rovers in the summer of 2004 on a free transfer from Newcastle and scored 18 goals in 107 appearances over four seasons.
Last season he scored five times from 22 starts and 13 substitute appearances and Rovers boss Ronnie Moore insisted the transfer represented good business for his club.
Moore said: "It was a great offer from Crewe and we decided to give Calvin the opportunity to move on.
"He was out of contract at the end of the season and there was a risk he would leave us then for free, so this is very good business for the club.
"It is a very high fee for a player with his goal to game ratio and number of starts. We have three strikers under contract at the Club in Chris Greenacre, Ian Moore and Craig Curran and we are looking to add a fourth."
