The highly-rated midfielder has penned a three-year deal at Molineux for an undisclosed fee.

The England Under-21 international becomes Wolves boss Mick McCarthy's third new signing of the summer following the arrivals of defender Richard Stearman and Sam Vokes.

Jones, 23, began his career at Manchester United where he played in the same youth team as current Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, captaining the side that won the 2003 FA Youth Cup.

Jones made just four senior appearances at Old Trafford before moving on loan to Preston, where he made his name as an assured midfielder.

A five-month loan spell with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen preceded his move to Derby, where he featured in their promotion campaign two years ago as well as their disappointing Premier League campaign last season.

In total Jones made 47 appearances for the Rams, scoring against Chelsea and playing against his former employers Manchester United.

Derby boss Paul Jewell said: "David is a cracking lad and has done very well for this football club, but it's a change which is another part of the re-building process here at Derby County.

"My focus is on continuing to reshape the squad for the challenge of a promotion battle this coming season."
