League One - Saints have one week to find buyer

Eurosport - Sat, 27 Jun 15:31:00 2009

The administrator at beleaguered Southampton has warned he may have to start winding the club up by the end of next week if a buyer has not been found.

FOOTBALL Southampton fans protest - 0

Despite two new parties expressing an interest in taking over cash-strapped Coca-Cola League One club, Mark Fry admitted time is fast running out for the Saints.

"The end of next week is a key tipping point in this," he told the Daily Echo. "It's the gravest its been in the period of administration."

He added: "There was a very short timeframe from the point we got involved.

"We stretched that as far as we can possibly stretch it and a deal really needs to be completed."

  1. As a Brighton fan I'm acutely aware of how mis-management and greed can destroy a club. It's a disgrace what's happened to Southampton - and it's about time all real supporters united in preventing such things happening again. If we don't then no club, however great or small, is safe. Football is not just about business; it's about history, passion and pride. This must be respected. Good luck Southampton - keep on fighting.

  2. Sorry i just happened across this site and im reading all these reviews im 65 years old i remember the saints in the old 3rd division so they have been down and out like the rest of us (im a Millwall fan for my sins)you go up you come down you win you lose its your team you dont have a right to moan if you come down because if your no good you lose, look at us,so what you do is still support the team and just hope it gets better. And when it does it still kicks you in the mouth, so welcome to real life football in the Championship,1st div,2nd div, where the true fans are who love there clubs.believe me you will enjoy it.

  3. waltondev1952, we didn't steal sturrock! He applied so we gave him an interview then paid the agreed compensation! We never approached him so so get ya facts right? As for your players, who did we take? And lets just leave ya stadium alone, coz the less said the better!

  4. i can remember not so long ago, when southampton stole our manager from us,then after about 8 games, they sacked him.im talking about paul sturrock, and plymouth argyle.they have wasted so much money,it beggars belief.i also remember when they were relegated , the southampton fans came down and laughed at our stadium.how are the mighty fallen.i have no sympathy for them whatsoever.theyve taken players from us and wasted them.the wages they are paying mediocre players is rediculous.as i said, they have brought this upon therselves.

  5. Good luck Saints, I am sure that you will get all this sorted out. The Boro managed to get by and survive in the 80's and somebody will come along to bail you out of this mess

  7. I never post comments till today but this is something that has pi..ed me off for years now . As long as prem league and sky have their incomes its a case f..k the lower leagues . It sickens me that for what a top team pays for a player a lower team could cease to exist . I am just waiting for one of the so called big 4 to face winding up . Liverpool wernt close cause that debt is tied to owners but chelsea and man u debt is clubs (i may be wrong with this statement but you get the point) . I think fa should reduce ammount each prem club gets for final pos and use money to help the likes of stockport , darlo , southampton etc insted of punishing them further . Those at the top have sold their souls for money ............... Good luck to all those struggling clubs i hope you survive and i say that as a so called rival of two of the one i mentioned by being born in portsmouth but living in and supporting Hartlepool. Greed is killing the game i love ....... Dave , Hartlepool

  8. I am getting more than a tad annoyed with this now. It is obvious the Football League are reluctant to let us escape the 10 point deduction, if things carry on the way they are going we are going to end with an even bigger points deduction. Lets just take the 10 points on the chin, it isn't a big deal really, most teams have had much bigger point deductions. Even with -10 points we can still take the league by storm next season just by keeping the squad we have now, who obviously don't mind staying or they would have gone by now. Just renew all the contracts with the apparent "several millions" that this pinnacle group have and we will cruise through League One whoever is in charge (manager wise). Apparently the new manager will have money to spend, this can only be positive. Lets get this all wrapped up and get on with winning the league.

  15. We beat Man U 1 -0 in '76 to win the FA Cup: we beat Man U 6-4 in a league match; beat Arsenal 3-2 with le Tiss scoring the last goal at the Dell - we can't F@#*ing beat greedy a***holes who bled the club dry in the name of business: thus ends 62 wonderful years of my life. I can't cry any more!

  17. Sadly although fans do put in a great deal of money into their clubs the vast majority of it comes from TV. Unfortunately too much of that money goes into the greedy pockets of top Premier league players.

I have no qualms about players earning a good living from the sport but a lot of them are now obscenely wealthy Their earnings are on a par with those of say Tiger Woods and Roger Federer which is absolutely ridiculous

  18. The people pay the Government(taxes), the Government use that money to save the banks, the banks pressurise the people by throwing them out of their houses and disolving their football clubs. What a crazy world.

  19. Point 17 - well said, totally agree with you 100%. I'm sick of the club I support taking us fans for granted, we pay £650 for a season ticket, then £130 for champion league tickets, then £30 per domestic cup game. And we get treat shabbily. It's about time we (football fans) let our respective clubs know that they live or die on the basis of us (the fans).
