Olympic 200 metres freestyle champion Federica Pellegrini can opt out of using the Italian team's Jaked 01 suit in next month's World Championships.

The controversial new suits, whose users have broken a string of world records, were finally approved this week by the governing body FINA but Pellegrini has since expressed her continued uneasiness about the situation.

"Jaked authorises the Italian swimming federation to release the swimmer from the obligation to wear the suit for now and forever," a statement said.
