NHL teams will have a little more to spend next season with the salary cap upper limit set at $56.8 million.
The number represents a $100,000 increase on last season's cap of $56.7 million while the lower level minimum each team must spend on player payroll was set at $40.8 million.
The cap, which was implemented following the 2004-05 lockout that wiped out the entire season, was first set at $39 million and has risen every year.
