Paul Buckle is refusing to give up hope that defender Chris Robertson will remain at Torquay.
The 22-year-old is the club's only out-of-contract player who has yet to agree terms on a new deal and has been linked with a move to Burton.
But Buckle wants Robertson to remain at Plainmoor and is to speak to him again in a bid to persuade him to stay.
"Chris is a first team regular as far as I'm concerned," he said. "I think we have improved him as a player.
"I definitely want him to stay. We have gone back to him with an improved second off, which speaks for itself. But it's important that Chris must want to stay with us too.
"I'm not going to bend over backwards for anyone - that's not right for the club. I'll be having another talk with Chris soon, and I hope he agrees to sign for us again."
