60 seconds: Lewis-Francis doesn't shake
Eurosport spent 60 seconds with British sprinter Mark Lewis-Francis discussing urine-splashed shorts.
Who were your heroes growing up?
Carl Lewis, Linford Christie and Donovan Bailey. Linford was the main one, being a Brit. My parents were and are an inspiration to me: my mum was a single parent with three jobs and always kept us well-fed and clean. She is still my motivation now. And my kids: they are my future and everything I do in athletics is for them.
What was your first car?
A Golf VR6. It cost £2,000 in 2002.
What would you have done if you hadn’t become a sprinter?
Something around sport. Or a mechanic – I love cars.
What is your most embarrassing moment in athletics?
I once needed the toilet in Birmingham so I ran off in a rush before the race – and I didn’t have time to shake! You could see it on my shorts... that’s happened to me a few times. There will be TV footage of it somewhere on YouTube. I should always wear black shorts...
If you could invite three guests to a dinner party, alive or dead, who would they be?
Jennifer Lopez... Muhammad Ali... and Linford.
What would you cook for them?
Cooking would be a problem... I’d have to get my Mum around!
What would she cook, then?
Some traditional Jamaican cuisine – curried goat and rice, jerk chicken. Nothing healthy! I’ve had to leave that stuff alone this year. I’ve not been to my Mum’s in a long time!
