Laws focused on Clarets opener

Sun 27 Jul, 05:45 PM

Brian Laws says the only result that counts is the season opener with Burnley, after playing down his side's fine run of pre-season results.Wednesday recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over League Two side Bury on Saturday following recent victories over HFC Haarlem, Stormvogels Telstar and MK Dons.

And Laws praised the players' fitness levels on a roasting day at Gigg Lane.

"The key thing for me is that we are progressing steadily through each game," he told the club's official website. "I keep saying it's not all about the results, it's about the fitness levels and the performances.

"And let's be fair, it was absolutely sweltering for the players out there. But they didn't wilt, they didn't drop and the signs I've seen so far are very encouraging.

"All in all, I'm pleased. Not delighted, because everything is geared towards the first game of the season against Burnley, If we win that one, that's when I will be delighted."
