Premier League - Spurs rule out big three

PA Sport - Mon, 26 Jul 16:15:00 2010

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has ruled out signing Raul, James Milner or Ashley Young because they would cost too much money.

Raul, 33, marked his last day of a 16-year stay at the Santiago Bernabeu by claiming that he could now be set for a move to the Premier League, with Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool linked to the Schalke target.

Spurs boss Redknapp insisted a move for the former Spain striker, who scored 323 goals for Los Blancos, would be beyond Spurs financially, but admitted he is interested in signing Luis Fabiano.

"I like Fabiano. I've got other targets, but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't like him, he's a top player," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "Raul was a great player at Real Madrid, but I wouldn't think he would be a player we would bring to Tottenham.

"Financially, I don't think it would be possible to do a deal like that."

Spurs have also been connected to Manchester City target Milner and his Aston Villa team-mate Young.

Redknapp thinks those deals would be out of their range too.

"No, we wouldn't be able to (sign Milner)," he added. "Anybody would like James Milner, he's an outstanding young player, but he'd be way out of our depth.

"Again, I wouldn't think they'd want to sell Ashley Young.

"He is a good player but he belongs to Villa. We've not made any enquiries for him at all."

  5. Raul has had it years ago, great player in his time, but he's not been at the top of his game for a long time. I think Harry should be content with what he's got. Defoe & Crouch is a great combination, Spurs for once should not try to change too much as they have a good side capable of doing something.

Comment 27 janetlennox - Two word post, and you spell one of those incorrectly.
Even allowing for being a girlie, that is poor.
As is the post itself - nobody has a worse reputation in football for 'tapping up' players than Harry Benttwat.
And the Tax Office are about to prosecute him for outstanding tax returns.
    Oh yes,he's honest alright.
He makes Del Boy Trotter look like a high court judge.

  8. just right harry , just cause city have money to burn dosen mean every other club should put themselves in debt remember what happened to leeds, simple fact is these players are over priced and ther wage demands are a scandal the fa should impose a wage cap on everu plaer in the league then we wil see who the player really wants to play for, id rather have a player who wants to play rather than because of wages

  9. The Art of Defending !

You defend as a team ~ Man United know that better than most. ( Watch Rooney chase back to help out ) It is not just down to the centre backs, but to the midfield / full back cover they get, together with other players tracking back, Players not getting pulled out of position, or players staying on their feet , slowing the attacks up and not getting beat too easily. Not ball chasing like infant school boy soccer players ! Even occasionally making a simple foul ( like the top clubs would do ) to slow the attack down.

Spurs are a great side when they click, beating Chelsea and Arsenal at the end of last season was terrific, but failing as usual at Man U. Though Harry helped a little with some odd positional selections. Not least moving the best left sided player at that time Bale, to full back, where you stifled his attacking flair. And the left back whose name I can't spell to right back. Even harry has his crazy moments, ( A bit like Capello not playing Crouch ! )

Players are not subuteo players Harry I know hind sight is great but I thought it was crazy before we lost. Ledley King played all 3, I believe and he does make a huge difference, as his extra pace gets him out of trouble. Dawson still learning and is an inspiration ! Woodgate was playing really well and is a classy Spurs type player.
Hopefully he will return as this kind of footballing defenders are not easy to find.

To me he is World Class even 75 % fit !

The keeper playing out of his skin was a huge deciding factor in those epic wins.
Maybe if the keeper hits peak form from day one, Spurs could win the title, we are due one !

If Brian Clough did it at Derby & Notts Forest , Harry can with Spurs ! BELIEVE !

ps Huddlestone has to play Harry, he is like Spain's Alonso, he moves the ball so quickly and he is quick to see the attacking pass. get him on a diet and extra sprint training and stamina work ! Please sell Bentley asap.

Just one question! Who the f**k would want to play for a cockney spiv with no better morals than a London sewer rat??? He wouldn't get ANY of those three because they all have taste! Jellied eel's and ching are not the taste of PROFESSIONAL footballers! Yahoo should try interviewing proper managers.

  15. Harry at least has shown the guts by not going for some of these players who've done almost everything and have therefore past their prime! However he should concentrate on the defense since Ledley King is injury prone and way past his prime! He should get some defenders to beef up his defensive backline since in the last campaign his team could score some decent goals but also let in some very comical goals! That's where his concentrations should be!
