Premier League - Henderson blow, Walcott worry

Wed, 27 Jul 13:39:00 2011

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that young midfielder Conor Henderson will be sidelined for six months "at the very least" after suffering a knee injury.

Premier League - Injury blows for Arsenal

Henderson, 19, went down in pain at the end of Arsenal's pre-season friendly against Cologne on Saturday and had to be taken off on a stretcher.

Wenger has now revealed the severity of the problem that forced Henderson to fly home from Germany.

“Conor has a knee injury and it looks as if it is a cruciate [ligament injury],” Wenger told the club's official website. “That means unfortunately that he will be out for six months at the very least.”

Henderson made his debut for Arsenal in the 5-0 FA Cup win over Leyton Orient in March.

He wrote on Twitter: "I have damaged my ACL and lateral meniscus and will miss rest of season.

"I'm absolutely devastated but am determined to come back stronger! Cannot thank you all enough for your support."

Arsenal have also revealed that forward Theo Walcott has been forced to fly home with an ankle injury.

Walcott will now undergo further scans with the new Premier League season just two weeks away.

"Theo went home early and was due to have an MRI on Tuesday," Wenger said.

"It is an old ankle injury from the end of last season. It's one that comes and goes.

"We need some more investigation because sometimes he's completely free of it and sometimes it affects him.

"But we had to send him back because he couldn't practice anymore."

  1. And you're giving up support? It just shows how @#$% you are as a fan. Come on, I'd pay a hundred pounds to see my team play any day. You're just a gloryhunting old granny.

  2. Michelle is laughing at the injuries? Is she a sick psychotic woman or what? Wenger has a ton of midfielders, we don't need anymore. If we get psychical players then how will they adapt to our passing style? Think women think.

  3. ACL injury is a bad one.

Hope he recovers well, but I think he will have ongoing issues with his knee for the rest of his career.

  5. I dont believe it - we have INJURIES already, ha, ha, ha, you gotta laugh haven't you otherwise you'll cry - maybe Wenger will learn now that he HAS to have a big squad as we always have INJURIES and this is BEFORE the season starts. Walcott is AWAYS injured, might as well give him a sicknote for life, I guess RVP will be next. I GIVE UP!!!

  8. one of the main problems Wenger has never learnt from INJURIES they left us very short of top players, our reserves were no way as good as our first team.
this is where Wenger spent more of his mind on stupid worries about the lack of talented players, instead of having a full squad by spending money, if a top player is injured we should have just as good a player in reserves,

WE LOST GROUND IN THE LEAGUE, FOR SIX YEARS DUE TO THE LACK OF WENGER'S SPENDING OUT FOR TOP PLAYERS IF THEY DO NOT MATCH THE PLAYERS INJURED THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN THE FIRST TEAM LET ALONE THE BENCH,L BUT MATURED IN THE RESERVES ONLY.
OUR BENCH HAS BEEN FAR WEAKER THAN EVERY TEAM IN THE PREMIERSHIP OVER THE SIX YEARS SO WENGER AND CHAIRMAN ENOUGH PROMISES AND SPEND THE CASH IN THE RIGHT AREAS, ON TOP CLASS PLAYERS, WE MAY HAVE SOME TOP PLAYERS BUT IT IS A
((( FULL TEAM ))) OF TOP PLAYERS WE NEED TO WIN THE LEAGUES, ON THE PITCH AND ON THE BENCH.
SO PUT A STOP TO YOUR WORRIES WENGER AND FOCUS ON WHAT WE NEED NOW THIS SEASON.
SOME PLAYERS IN THE FIRST TEAMS SHOULD NOT EVEN BE IN THE RESERVES
(( CENTRAL DEFENDERS FOR A START))

  11. This injury is career threatening; dont expect him back in 6-months. At least he is young & has a chance but it will take alot of work from everyone concerned... and patience.

  13. i have doubt for years now for how arsenal trainning and their pysio doing???why arsenal player are easily injured??more then any team in the epl???cmon this is a world class football club you talking about...how can you figured that out wenger???every season there will be many injuries in arsenal team which are so worrying and clearly had effected us badly...a change in coaching staff and pysio are a must now..its not a bad luck anymore..its a tragedy and if we can do something lets try to do it...cmon we cant afford to lose key players through injuries anymore...

  14. Get well as soon as possible connor !! Great prospect but like Frimpong last year he was very unfortunate !! Walcott hopefully will be okay but there is something wrong with the way we play and get injured TOO easy. I think wenger should bring in a specialist to find out what the players do wrong. Usually out players get hamstring and knee injuries and it affects our season! GET WELL GUYS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !!!
