The biennial Ryder Cup battle has begun. The relentless force of the USA versus the sophistication and tradition of the European side. Yes, the race to be Ryder Cup style champions is well and truly underway.
Both teams have run into some fairly shocking fashion bunkers over the years.
Remember USA combat jackets in Kiawah Island? Europe's 1970s TV detective brown suede jacket look of 2006? The hideous USA polo shirts decorated with old Ryder Cup photographs for the final day at Brookline in 1999? European salmon-pink of 1987? The USA's Sherlock Holmes chic for K-Club last time out?
At least if the heavens open at this year's battle at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, the European side will know they will have the edge in the style-stakes.
ProQuip, the Scotland-based company that produced the acclaimed, silk-like rain suits worn by the victorious European Ryder Cup team in Ireland two years ago, is Europe's preferred weatherwear supplier for this year's event in Kentucky and also at Celtic Manor in 2010.
The announcement underlines ProQuip's status as the most selected weatherwear supplier in Ryder Cup history.
The latest star in the ProQuip stable is the Hydratech suit, which incorporates new wave body-configured style with fusion fabric technology, which combines Silk Touch, Ultralite and Liberty fabrics for their most efficient suit to date.
The sharp-cut rain suit features a half-elasticated waist band, belt loops and an adjustable click-lock belt to provide a perfect fit.
And importantly, the jacket also has an ultra soft, stretchable inner lining for unrestricted movement and virtually silent performance - meaning no annoying rustling during the swing.
As former Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam says, the suit is so light and comfortable you hardly know you are wearing it.
Like the jacket, the trousers are three-year waterproof guaranteed and Teflon treated with ultra soft matt finish. Fully lined, they can be worn with or without normal trousers and feature leg zips for easy access.
All this in a suit light and fitted enough not to make you look like the Michelin Man. It's got to be worth a look.
