Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has said his club will secure the signing of Robinho from Real Madrid in the next 48 hours.
New Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has been chasing the Brazil international since he took over at Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.
But that long pursuit finally appears to be nearing a conclusion as Scolari looks to add a third new recruit to his squad, following the captures of Deco and Jose Bosingwa.
Kenyon said: "We are ever confident that it (the transfer) will get done but I think we have always said it will go to the wire.
"We will keep moving it along and we would hope that he will be coming to join us at Chelsea.
"There were two players that he [manager Luiz Felipe Scolari] really identified. One was Deco and one was Robinho.
"I think we've already seen the impact that Deco has made on the Premier League and we've certainly seen the impact he has made with us.
"If we get Robinho, I think the squad is strong and capable of competing in all competitions without him but with him it's just that added dimension."
Robinho, who played under Scolari for the Brazil national side, has made it clear that he wants to quit the Bernabeu and last week begged Real directors to negotiate a deal with Chelsea.
Having initially been reluctant to let the forward leave, Real now appear to have relented and the Spanish giants are willing to sell the wantaway star for a reported 36 million euros (£28.75m).
Robinho's agent Wagner Ribeiro confirmed an agreement was in sight.
"A deal is about to be reached," he said in the Guardian. "Robinho's time in Spain has come to an end. He is looking forward to being part of a new project."

chelsea will dominate d epl for next 5 yrs? haha, funny but yawning. even chelsea win 5 epl titles within 5 yrs, its still too little, even to be compared to aston villa. so keep on dreaming...
Chelsea seems to be a thorn in every premierships side. And that has been the case for more than the Roman revolution. I can only think it is jealousy on the part of other supporters. Yes Chelsea have money but at least they spend it. Man U,Arsenal and Liverpool do not have the same owner who wants to see his asset grow. All other teams in the premiership want to aspire to the level of the buying power of Chelsea but unfortunately have failed. With Alex Ferguson leaving in two years,Rafa never being able to get it right and Wenger potless. Chelsea will dominate the premiership for at least the next 5 years. As for any other premiership side breaking into the top 4. Not a chance.
Real Madrid have already known how "good" the "New Pele" was. If he is really that good, they would have long branded him not-for-sale, just like C Ronaldo to Man Utd.
I still remember a few years ago this lad was full of hype, and continuously ask Santos for transfer to Real Madrid. Put it back today, same situation, same attitude.
Last time, Real Madrid was full of hope and even desparate and willing to pay big money for landing the best player in the world, the "New Pele".
Today, they let him go.
And Robinho past years' stat, the goal scoring, says it all.
Best players never even say they want to be the best player, they just play the best football. That's all. Just play.
It is about the attitude and character of individual player. Some players just can't make it. It may not be that they are lack of talent. It is the players' attitude.
Robinho will not become like Shevchenko cause he's still young and can always improved. Shev is 33, to old to be running and get the ball. i like Shev, but with the way he play at chelsea, we dont need that!!
i'm a CHELSEA fan yo!!!! just to say one thing. Schuster get to eat his own words!! hahaah. talk about releasing ronaldo, and now........he's lost robinho!!! Make the blue flag flying high!!!
Come on MAN U fans, Ronaldo is only still at Old Trafoord because he is injured. I'm not taking the piss, It's just the truth. Get over it, move on. He will not be there next season. DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA. Yours, not Mine!
For once, take a ittle time to regail the lads that actually want to play for u. How About Teves? A least he really wants to be there!!!
Dont Get Me Wrong. The Fact That Chelsea Can BUY The Worlds Best Players, Coaches & The LEAGUE TITLE Says Somthing For The Team And The Premiership. Lets Face It, Even With An Open Check-book Like Chelsea's, Most Of The Worlds Best Players Would Not Go To Arsenal Or Spurs.
HAVING SAID THIS... What About Our Boys Here In England? Is REAL ENGLISH FOOTBALL Lost On Everyone? I Am A Spurs Supporter And Always Relished Our Clubs Ability To Find Great English Talent. Now? RAMOS Just Wants To Be Another WENGER. Funny How Things Come Around Eh? Chelsea Can Buy The League But Spurs And Aresenal Can't?
POINT? WHY BE ANOTHER WENGER? Whats The Point? WHAT ABOUT ENGLISH, Even Another Step... BRITISH FOOTBALL? LAD'S, I Will Say This Once. WE R LOST?
maximus ,,,,,, have you seen robino play week in week out cos he is a good diver also and he sulks if he dont get his own way ,and i think joe cole is a better player , yes big buy but will he be as good , look at shevi he had a bad time here , some players click some dont thats football
if u ar not chelsea fan why u follow chelsea news, this is just because that u all other club fans know that this season no other club can match with chelsea. last season manu was lucky to get the Champions League. this time chelsea will not leave that on luck. go CHELSEA go.
To Man U fan!!!! Dont be chanting ronaldo name to much, cause he's already state his desire to play for real madrid. So, how long will u think ronaldo will stay???? not so long i think.....cause he has got everything he could at Man U except quit!!!!!
I hate to admit it but I love the new Chelsea - I didn't really like them before even though they have always had great players. Anyway, Big Phil is one of the best managers/coaches and I completely agree with rabarberabarbe - Chelsea will definitely win because of their midfield. Deco is the best - I was real happy to see him leave Barca he needed a new challenge and is doing great. I'm not a fan of Robinho and Chelsea definitely doesn't need him.
talk about a star studded squad!!! deco, robinho, ballack, lampard, joe cole... and thats just some of the mid field!!
i really don't understand the benefit of this move
all it does is nullify Anelka's move from last season and place Drogba's position under threat
you cant have 30 players on the pitch so why buy 30 players that are worth 10's of millions of pounds
Chelsea will win the league this year because of their midlield... Robinho or not
all you man utd @#$% are just cracking me up.....for @#$% sake you all know your @#$% this season, now that the old @#$% alex has lost his second in charge, ill be pissing my pants when the mighty @#$% blues get their title back, you sorry bunch of jealous @#$%.............
No matter who the muthafuckas buy, Man U is still gonna win the Champions League and Premier League.Maybe Robinho will help them win the Carling Cup while Arsenal and Liverpool fight for the FA. Go MAN U
yea yea yea... bla bla bla...
hi al ya need 2 knw dat chelsea is da best and gat de best in mates dis season, man u, arsenal and leve gat notin cause dem gona find it hot dis season
Good signing for Chelsea if they do get him, as long as the move doesn't affect the way he plays like Shevchenko.
LFC4LYF
yeah, good move for chelsea's fat mgr to get fired if he not win anything this season...
hahahahah.... u're rite no 62... i agree
