Qatari outfit Al-Saad had an offer for the Brazilian - thought to be in the region of £7 million - accepted by the Teessiders several weeks ago, but the former Heerenveen man was not keen on the move.

However, Press Association Sport understands the deal could be resurrected ahead of next Tuesday's transfer deadline with the bid still on the table.

Alves arrived at the Riverside Stadium for a club record £12.7m in January 2008, but has never scored as freely as he did in Holland.

Alves, who is currently working his way back to full fitness after foot surgery at the end of last season, has also attracted interest from Holland.

He is one of several big earners who could leave Boro in the next few days with Tuncay Sanli still at the centre of speculation and central defenders David Wheater and Robert Huth in the sights of potential buyers.

  1. The lad to put it simply was not good enough or cared enough maybe he would have come good in the championship but when Boro needed him he went missing in the pitch. So Boro i know he cost us a fortune but learn from this and cut you loses......

  2. He just did not perform in the Prem. Perhaps the fires of Quatar and the desert will shake him up.
