Ipswich manager Roy Keane has turned his attention to former club Sunderland as attempts to strengthen his squad.
Press Association Sport understands Town have tabled a joint offer for midfielders Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards as the Irishman looks to strengthen his squad after a dreadful start to the Coca-Cola Championship campaign.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has hinted that there could be departures before the transfer window closes next Tuesday.
Chester-le-Street-born Leadbitter, a product of the Black Cats' Academy, has played only a peripheral role so far this season following the summer arrivals of Lee Cattermole and Lorik Cana.
Trinidad and Tobago international winger Edwards, who was signed by Keane from Luton for £1.4million in January 2007, played a major part in the club's promotion campaign that season, but was unable to command a regular place in the starting line-up in the Barclays Premier League.
Steed Malbranque and Kieran Richardson are currently the men in possession of the wide berths.
Bruce has invested heavily this summer in the likes of record £10million signing Darren Bent, Cattermole, Cana, Fraizer Campbell and Paulo da Silva.
He is also still attempting to push through a season-long loan move for Lyon defender John Mensah.

he may be @#$%, but he is premiership @#$%, jordan henderson needs to be loined out or kept as back up!
if we lose carlos that leaves only a handful of wingers, and i can only name 2! so unless bruce signs atleast one good winger i think we should keep edwards.

Ewdards may pretend to be a winger, but he has never beaten anyone in the EPL playing a such. He is weak easily disposed, has little or no vision as to where hhe should be putting the ball, his disribution of the ball is atrotious to say the least. We have enough cover in Jordan Henderson who is better than Edwards in all departments and also F campbell if push comes to shove. I do agree that we should have another wide palyer in the squad to play down the left wing., but not Edwards in a Million years and no-one will ocnvince me of anything different . So I think we willhave to agree to disagree on this point.
comment 14, on the other forums you seem to be an ipswich supporter????? your no mackem you retarted thuck
If keane does half the job with ipswich that he did with sunderland then he will be a huge success.
Its a pity the yank wanted to pick the team.
I am a sunderland supporter and keane won our second trophy in our history in his first season as a manager.
The real sunderland supporters know whta he did for us .
please dont listen to these childish brats who think they know it all from playing playstation and footiemanager.
Keane will be remembered in safc history as a legend
malcolm, edwards is a winger and leadbitter is centrel midfield, even though leadbitter is better (slightly) we will be short of wingers, if he goes we only have reid and steed and think of what would happen if one of them got injured or even both!!!. we cant rely on youngsters to fill edwards boots can we now.

You cannot be seriuous about Edwards??? read all the comments that people have put on and re think what you said FTM
edwards will never be a premiership player a decent championship player but not premiership class bruce is doing right selling this type of player but please steve sign some more defenders we look very short in that department.Oh and carlos if u do go thanks for that goal against burnley
nooooooooooo not edwards! bruce you fool do not let carlos leave, what about if injuries strike the squad?
Edwards is never going to be a Premiership player: he can't defend against quality opposition and he lacks consistency going forward. Excellent championship player though. Leadbitter is better but I suspect we need the dosh and that position is now well-staffed, really sorry to see an academy player go, we don't get many through, do we? Murphy, McShane and Nosworthy are in the same boat as Edwards, as is Healy. We need to move on, and Bruce is doing exactly that. I can't see Ferdinand being there for much longer either, he loses concentration at all the wrong times.
no way, brucie aint that thick to let leadbitter go, edwards maybe, but not leadbitter, the two that will be shown the door are macshane and murphy and good ridance to them both, i have sen better players doing there stuff on a wet and windy sunday afternoon, even keane will snub those two, and thats saying something
ipswich must have this players:vladimir stojkovic, scot mcmanus, collins, ben haim, danny gabidon or danny shittu, edwards, reid, vander meyde, henri camara, milan purovic and dos santos
There are (a lot of) players I'd rather see leave the SoL than Leadbitter ad Edwards. Murphy and Healy for a start. McCartny, too. Carlos did a good job for us, and suffered two horrendous injuries last term, which take some getting over.
I am pleased for Grant , but I am very pleased we are getting rid of Carlos Edwards. He was another player who was vastly over rated and over priced. If Whitehead went to Stoke for £3,000,000 then Grant Leafbitter and Edwards should be worth £6,million for the two together.
KEANE out !!!!
ipswich must buy mcmanus from celtic, jorge andrade is free agent, lucas neill is free agent, vander meyde is free agent, henri camara is free agent
ur an idiot if u tink keanos a useless manager. The players he has at ipswich r not up to playing for a bigish club under a TOP up and cuming manager. HE got sunderland to the premiership and he wud still b der in the premiership wit sunderland had he been left run the team the way he wanted.
Keane is a usless manager FULL STOP!!
