An investigation has been launched after an assistant referee was hit by an object thrown from the crowd at a football match in Dunfermline.
The object, which has not been identified, was hurled from the direction of East End Park's North West stand during the first half of the Dunfermline Athletic versus Raith Rovers CIS Cup match on Wednesday night. The official did not sustain any injury but he was left shocked by the incident.
The Police Match Commander Inspector Gus Macdonald, of Fife Constabulary, said: "This was the first derby match between the two clubs in several years. Such an unsavoury incident has tarnished what was otherwise a good footballing occasion."
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Fife Constabulary on 0845 600 5702 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
