Robson impresses in second pro event

British teen Laura Robson reached the semi-finals at her second professional tournament before falling to Estonia's Maret Ani.

The 14-year-old junior Wimbledon champion beat compatriot Sarah Borwell, world number 128 Urszula Radwanska and Israeli veteran Tzipora Obziler at the ITF event in Shrewsbury before falling to the world 105 Ani 6-2 3-6 6-0.

The Australian-born Robson was making her United Kingdom debut after winning her maiden professional match before falling in the second round at Limoges last week.

Robson needs to compete in just one more event in order to earn a WTA ranking.

  8. Watch out for Laura, I saw her play at Junior­ Wimbledon, she is a dangerous lefty, with confidence­ and guile, she has an amazing amount of confidence and­ composure. To be able to beat a player like Ursula­ Radwanska is an amazing achievement, especially as­ great things are expected of Ursula. I really hope that­ Laura can gain the world ranking that she wants after­ her next pro event, and then eventually work toward the­ top 100 which I think she will achieve.

  9. Urszula Radwanska is one of the rising stars of­ women's tennis, described by Serena Williams as­ "definitely one to watch" after she gave­ Williams a tough match at Wimbledon. She must surely­ have been a class above anyone Laura Robson had played­ previously. For Laura, who is three years younger than­ Radwanska, to dispatch her 6-3 6-3 is quite­ astonishing.
