Scottish Premier League - Round-up: Celtic win

Eurosport - Sat, 27 Sep 18:12:00 2008

A 90th-minute goal by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink gave Celtic a dramatic 3-2 win over Aberdeen in their Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash at Parkhead.

FOOTBALL 2006-2007 Champions League Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink Celtic Manchester United - 0

The Dutchman fired them into a first-half lead after only 14 minutes but former Celtic player Charlie Mulgrew, on as a first-half substitute for Scott Severin, drilled home the equaliser in the 56th minute before curling a wonderful free-kick past Artur Boruc eight minutes later.

Scott McDonald, on for Marc Crosas, headed home the equaliser in the 77th minute to level the scores before Hesselink squeezed Aiden McGeady's cross in at the near post.

Bob Malcolm scored Motherwell's winner as they came from behind to beat St Mirren 2-1.

Motherwell had fallen behind to a Billy Mehmet goal just before the half-hour mark but fought back for their first home win of the season thanks to an early-second half goal from John Sutton - playing against his old team - and Malcolm's bundled winner just after the hour.

St Mirren's misery was complete 20 minutes from time when Franco Miranda received a straight red card after the assistant referee signalled he had used an elbow.

Jon Daly celebrated the birth of his daughter with a goal as Dundee United convincingly recorded a 3-0 win over Hearts.

Daly volleyed home from 18 yards just after the interval to add to Craig Conway's free-kick in a first half dominated by United.

Scott Robertson headed a simple third just after the hour mark to finish off a poor Hearts side, who had Eggert Jonsson sent off.

Inverness celebrated their first home win of the season after beating Kilmarnock 3-1 at the Caledonian Stadium.

Conor Sammon gave Kilmarnock the lead after four minutes but a lob from Phil McGuire brought the home side back level.

The turning point of the match came just before half-time when Andy Barrowman won and converted a penalty, and Jamie Fowler was later sent off for Kilmarnock before Ian Black headed home a third for the Highlanders.

Two goals from Scott Arfield and Burton O'Brien's first goal for Falkirk helped the Bairns beat Hamilton 4-1.

Buoyed by Steve Lovell's second goal in two games moments before half-time, Falkirk surged further ahead with strikes from Arfield and O'Brien only two minutes apart midway through the second period.

Having given as good as they got for much of the match, Accies then capitulated and Arfield netted a fourth from the penalty spot before Olejnik palmed Trent McLenahan's cross into his own net.

You may as well take your buckets and spades to Spain with ya next week and stay on the beach drinking yer sangria - and diggin' holes to hide in.
You bhoys really think you'll do anything apart from hiding your head in the sand?
Your kiddin' yourselves if you think that lot can get more than a point from all six matches.
You keep saying how bad the bears are. God help you if that's true....

  6. Celtic are top of the table because..
Even though both teams are level on points (16 pts each) and also level on goal difference (+7 goals each)
    Celtic have scored MORE GOALS than Rangers.. Celtic (F17 - A10) .. Rangers (F12 - A5).
It's got nothing to do with the result between both teams or the fact Rangers have a game in hand. The Amount of goals scored comes before results between both clubs.
