The Yellow Submarine are without a win in their first five matches of the new season after another damaging defeat in Galicia.

Just eight minutes were on the clock when Juca's kick found its way through a flimsy Villarreal wall and between Diego Lopez and his right-hand post

Ernesto Valverde's side were disappointing in the first half but improved after the interval and might have equalised just three minutes after half-time.

Only an outstanding save from Daniel Aranbuzia, who clawed Joseba Llorente's header off the line, prevented Villarreal levelling the match.

That was as close as the visitors came and, despite the sporadic promptings of Santi Cazorla and the speculative shooting of Marcos Senna, the hosts held out for the morale-boosting victory.

Two goals from Abel Aguilar helped Real Zaragoza to pick up their second win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 success over a disappointing Getafe side.

Two headed goals in the space of seven minutes in the first half did for the visitors, as first Francisco Pavon, with his first goal for over five years, and then Aguilar left goalkeeper Oscar Ustari floundering from two Jorge Lopez deliveries.

With a two-goal lead established as early as the 24th minute, the visitors offered only limited resistance and, though it took a while in coming, it was not too much of a surprise when Zaragoza claimed their third goal.

Nine minutes from time, substitute Ewerthon teed up Aguilar to finish with aplomb and put Getafe out of their considerable misery.

Real Mallorca climbed to fourth in La Liga with a 3-0 victory over visitors Real Valladolid. The islanders made it three wins from three at the Ono Estadi with goals from Nunes, Aritz Aduriz and Borja Valero to continue their impressive start to the campaign.

They have 10 points from five games, two behind third-placed Sevilla, who hammered Athletic Bilbao 4-0 away on Saturday.

Real Madrid and Barcelona top the standings with 100 per cent records after five matches. Real beat promoted Tenerife 3-0 at the Bernabeu on Saturday and the champions were 2-0 winners in Malaga.

La Liga newcomers Xerez earned their first top-flight point but have still to score their first goal after drawing 0-0 at Espanyol. They remain bottom after five games.
