Sol Campbell has been offered a route back into the Premier League by Hull City.
According to the Sunday Mirror, Tigers boss Phil Brown wants to bring the former England international to the KC Stadium after the centre-back sensationally quit League Two club Notts County after just one game.
Brown had been keen to sign the former Tottenham, Arsenal and Portsmouth defender in the summer, but Campbell was unwilling to join on a one-year contract.
Despite Campbell now being a free agent again, transfer regulations mean Brown will have to wait until January to make the deal that would fill the gap left by Michael Turner's departure to Sunderland.
However, the Sunday Express reports that Campbell held talks over a move to Roy Keane's struggling Ipswich Town just hours after leaving County.
That same paper also believes that Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to take over from Ian McParland as manager of the club.
Campbell walked out on his five-year, £40,000-a-week deal at Meadow Lane after the 2-1 defeat at Morecambe on September 19, citing the fact that promises about other star signings weren't kept.
Campbell told the News of the World: "I knew I would be the club's first big signing but was told I would be the first of many.
"Names like Roberto Carlos and Benjani were mentioned. But nothing materialised. And you know when people have money because things happen quickly. The only thing I'm guilty of is taking people at their word."
At Campbell's former club Portsmouth, the Daily Star Sunday's back page goes with the news that Pompey are lining up Gordon Strachan to replace beleaguered boss Paul Hart.
Hart has presided over a Premier League record seven straight defeats this season, and despite the mass exodus of players and current dearth of quality in the squad the club's hierarchy believe a change of manager is needed.
Club owner Sulaiman Al Fahim will reportedly give Strachan £10 million to spend in January, while offering Hart another role at Fratton Park. Whether he understands the full significance of employing a former Southampton manager as his saviour is not known.
Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has reportedly held talks with an Arab prince over selling a 25 per cent stake in the club.
Gillett met the Saudi billionaire - named by the Sunday Mirror as Khalid Al Faisal and Faisal bin fahid bin Abdullah al Saud by the News of the World - following Liverpool's 6-1 mauling of Hull at Anfield on Saturday.
Gillett's partner Tom Hicks would have to give his approval on the deal, but the pair have been keen to invite Middle Eastern money into the club for some time.
Back to on-pitch matters now, and Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson will either bring in Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio on Internazionale custodian Julio Cesar, depending on who you believe.
The News of the World reveal that United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele admits the club are on lookout for another keeper following Ben Foster's inconsistent form of late, and that the champions have first option on signing Sporting's 21-year-old shot-stopper.
However, United fans will probably be more excited at the prospect of signing Inter's Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar, with The People claiming that a £20 million offer will be tabled.
Tottenham's problem position at the moment is at centre-back, and Harry Redknapp is looking at bidding for West Ham's Matthew Upson or Bolton's Gary Cahill to bolster the heart of his defence which has been ravaged by injury.
Finally, it has emerged that following El Hadji Diouf's alleged racial spat during the 3-0 defeat at Everton last Sunday the Senegalese forward had a dressing room punch-up with Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen.
Diouf claimed that some Toffees fans threw bananas at him during the clash at Goodison Park, despite no supporting evidence, and is alleged to have racially abused a teenage ball boy before trading blows with his own skipper.
A club source told the News of the World: "Ryan was absolutely furious with Diouf and accused him of being selfish and not working for the team. Diouf reacted by throwing himself at him and was throwing punches like a windmill.
"Ryan acted to defend himself, but the rest of the players jumped in to separate them. It turned really nasty for moment."

So someone at United has seen the light, Ben (England first) Foster isn't good enough for The Champions of England, about time, he'sa disloyal sh--e. Hope they get Julio Cesar.
get the african flavour in global football @ africaplays.come
This is one reason racism does not go away. There are plenty who use it to their advantage when in the wrong. I have seen it in the workplace where managers are terrified of doing their job against certain people. Because if they do the 'race' card is used against them even If it has nothing to do with race. This gives the actual bigots a foot hole in the normal peoples society.Diouf should not be playing if he is found guilty of this and calling a young boy racist names.
ya, another chance for liverpool fans to show what hypocrits they are. They'll go from insulting city about their recent take over( towels and oil) to praising their new owners as a new dawn to help liverpool get over that final hurdle called Manchester United...
Sounds to me like ryan Nelson got his @#$% properly kicked all overthe rovers dressing room...."started throwing punches like windmills" fu cking hell,if he did get racially abused he is entitled to be angry though, anyway serves him right to play for a club called Black burn what did he think would happen. Theonly player who never got racial abuse there was Andy Cole who for some reason seemed always to get a pass, unless of course he was playing for England where the monkey chants were in full effect
These people that want coloured people to go home. I wonder can we take the TVs, cars, stereos, Microwaves, cookers, computers, oil, gas, electricity, and leave you guys in the stone age where you belong. all of the above things come from coloured people so how do you intend to live without us? Fu cking morons
"The only thing I'm guilty of is taking people at their word." Hahaha, welcome to the club, scumbag ...
I thought it was said Sol Campbell signed a 5yr contract at Notts County - what is the thing with this word 'contract' - Bloody hell I signed a Marriage certificate and when that got quashed, it cost me loadsamoney - How come these footballers sign all these papers and walk away without any compensation being paid back to the club they signed for? Disgusting.
marcus d isnt the comment youve made about him "going back home" and not needing his "kind" the sort of racist rubbish he is complaining about from..... well you call your self a "fan" if he is lying it will be found out and he will be dealt with there is no need or right for you to feel the need to make those sort of comments this is a space for opinions on football not racial bigotry
Campbell goes to City they'll be in an even better position for Championship football

WTF??
is cesar really any good?
london_league_promoter - you do nothing but confirm the worldwide stereo-type of your kind. The word 'bin' in an Arabic name means 'son of'. (As does 'ibn'). So his name reads Faisal 'son of' Fahid 'son of' Abdullah Al Saud. Al Saud is the family name, and the Al Saud family are the founders of modern Saudi Arabia.
Diouf is insane.
if hull get campbell they will definataly get relagated cos he is well past it has been for two or three seasons. slow as a snail no better than div 1.
Sol Campbell to join Hull??? What as the new Manager? pmsl
Julio Cesar is a fantastic goalkeeper,he would be a great signing for United

El Hadji Diouf aka the worlds biggest gobshite.
