Wigan secured a famous 3-1 victory over 10-man Chelsea, their first over one of the 'big four' in 35 matches, at the DW Stadium to knock the Blues off the top of the Premier League table.
Titus Bramble headed the Latics in front in the first half, only for Didier Drogba to pull Chelsea level just after the break thanks to an error from Chris Kirkland.
Eight minutes into the second half Hugo Rodallega ran through and was brought down by Chelsea keeper Petr Cech, who was red-carded - and the attacker smacked the spot-kick home.
In injury time Paul Scharner slid in to finish after Maynor Figueroa squared across the six-yard box - and set the home fans celebrating.
It was not less than Wigan deserved as they enjoyed a good deal of the ball after the opening goal against a Chelsea side missing Joe Cole and Michael Ballack, out with a cold and calf injury respectively.
That came courtesy of a well-worked corner, Rodallega playing short to Charles N'Zogbia who crossed at his leisure for arriving centre-half Bramble to rise unchallenged and nod into the corner.
Nicolas Anelka had pulled an early chance wide of the far post but did not manage to do much more for Chelsea, while Drogba improved but was frustrated until his strike.
The clever Malouda worked towards the box and delivered low; the Ivorian shot low first time - but Kirkland should have gathered. Instead, the ball squirmed through his hands then legs and into the corner.
Away skipper John Terry immediately forced Kirkland to make amends with a close-range shot and it looked as though Chelsea would steamroll the Latics.
However a minute later Rodallega burst through and Cech caught him on the boot with his studs; he went down easily, but it was a penalty.
Cech was astounded to be sent off and his replacement Hilario, on for the unfortunate Malouda, tried a bit of gamesmanship over the ball.
Colombian Rodallega was undeterred and smashed his kick down the middle and in.
Striker Jason Scotland was a handful on his first top-division start while the leggy Rodallega caused problems from behind him, something Frank Lampard could not manage for the Blues after a couple of early attempts on goal.
Salomon Kalou came on for Jose Bosingwa, with fellow Chelsea substitute Juliano Belletti dropping in at right-back, and the Ivorian ventured into the area a few times without providing a final product.
Wigan looked in control against the 10 men but were unable to muster more than several weak efforts on goal before Figueroa sprung the offside trap to set up Scharner.
Before that strike N'Zogbia was unfortunate to be ruled offside when through on goal; but manager Roberto Martinez and chairman Dave Whelan will not mind a bit.

LMFAO at Cyril #179... "It's either a send off or red card".
That's got to be the funniest thing I have ever read on a football forum. I suggest you stick to a sport you understand and leave this forum to football fans.

no one is denying that Chelsea were outplayed that game,i'm a Chelsea fan and i'm telling you that we were outplayed,it happens. What are you saying if it were Manu in Chelsea's place you wouldn't admit that you were outplayed?,that's just arrogant, and that is the problem with alot of you Manu fans (some not all),you think you are above all the rest, history wise you've won more trophies etc,etc so you don't have the heart to admit it...actually it was smart of him to say that "Wigan played better than us",otherwise you'd start criticizing us of being in denial.you'd feed of every little mistake to throw back in our face so i think he did the right thing...There,he admitted it,can't say much now can you?..but this is just the beginning,we won't be disappointed.not this time.Come On Chelsea!
as if mancheater united didnt loose a game!!! chelsea isnt invincble sooner or later it will loose but it will never loose to mancheater united!!!!!!
@cyril post 179, its either a send off or a red card?!! are you high on something? both means the same thing man please stay off the drugs!
i am worried Man utd ascended the Epl table in just 7 games and without Ronaldo or Tevez. last season with both players they did no top the league table until week 25. now that they have arrived early this season we can only hope they come down quick too
Chelsea didn't lose... all U fukked up Man U fans!! Football lost... if a ref hiding a red shirt underneath his kit can see it fit 2 send off a keeper even after giving him a red card then I ask - what justice is enough. It's either a send off or red card. Fergie is inviting the FA to his ranch and giving them @#$%s for favours... is this the football we want to watch?? It's a trip how a team can switch so quick fkk United, Chelsea will be back next week WORD
I admit nobody is unbeatable ! All you anti Chelsea you also have lost this season do not forget that ! People love to see Chelsea get beaten , just goes to show we are 99% of the time favourites to win a match ! & always will be in the top 4 with Man City creating a top 5 spot , we are still up there & nobody can write us off COME ON CHELSEA !!
typical manu scum running their mouths off again,,but so quiet wen teams like burnley stand up against them,,,ferguson wont be around for ever then wer will u scum be huh? im waithing for the day ferguson leaves this planet & watch all u manu scum cry wen ur team will be nothing but a memory........

come on Chelsea... don't upset wt that result... nothing to shame when play wt 10 man... n also unbeatable is not our objective this season... at least Chelsea never packing up by Burnley... at 2nd place wt different goal still good for me... make sure Chelsea will bounce back next game... BLUE IS THE COLOUR...
all the blues are now qiuet ,told you that the coach is not a magicien
Am a blue.Calamity befell chelsea yesterday. In his departing notes, hiddink said chelsea needed strenghtening with young players but ancelotti sees differently. He has seen the first baptism of fire moreso now that they cant buy players.Lets see his reaction nexrt weekend against a rampant liverpool who broke the stamford bridge last season.Especially with cech suspended.A draw will be fine to regenerate confidence.Should chelsea lose then bye to the trophy
LOVE TAE SEE CHELSEA GETTING P##PED AFF ANYBODY HAHAHAHA.............HAIL HAIL THE CELTS ARE HERE
Not surprised that man u & @#$% fans wld be running their mouths on @$$#, that has no bzness with them. Not to worry. you say all you want Chelsea will be here. M%$^&&&^)
