Serie A - Round-up: Last-gasp Bologna deny Juve

Eurosport - Sun, 27 Sep 23:07:00 2009

A stoppage-time strike from Adailton broke Juventus' hearts and gave Bologna a share of the spoils with a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.

David Trezeguet gave the home side the lead in the 24th minute, but the Brazilian side-footed past Buffon two minutes into time added on to earn a point in Turin.

Mauro Camoranesi hit the woodwork with five minutes remaining but the Bianconeri miss the opportunity to overhaul Sampdoria at the top of Serie A.

Juve lost no time in taking the game to their visitors in their bid to hit the top, winning two corners in as many minutes.

The assistant's flag halted Camoranesi when he was poised to pull the trigger from Trezeguet's pass, and provider almost turned poacher on 13 minutes.

The Frenchman raced on to a long ball over the top and looked set to score only to be denied by Emiliano Viviano, who deflected the ball agonisingly past the post.

Trezeguet was a constant threat and should have opened Juve's account four minutes later when he inexplicably prodded wide from Jonathan Zebina's pass.

Viviano then pulled off another great stop when Zebina was allowed to waltz into the Bologna box unchallenged, but the rebound fell kindly to Trezeguet who poked the ball home from close range.

To their credit, Bologna refused to lie down and thought they had levelled in first-half stoppage time.

Andrea Raggi and Giorgio Chiellini challenged for a teasing cross and with Gianluigi Buffon in no-man's land, the ball finished in the net - only for the Bologna man to be flagged offside.

Juventus came close to extending their lead in the second period when a fierce drive from Felipe Melo was saved by Viviano's knees with Trezeguet also offside as he shaped to net the rebound.

But as time wore on, Bologna sensed their chance. Marco Di Vaio twice came close within minutes, first scuffing his shot wide with a clear sight of goal then superbly denied by Chiellini's goal-line clearance after rounding Buffon.

Camoranesi should have wrapped the game up when he headed against the post from Sebastian Giovinco's delivery, but the final twist in the tale saw Adailton convert Salvatore Lanna's cross and earn Bologna a deserved point.

Milan were held to a goalless draw by an impressive Bari in the San Siro, with Ronaldinho unable to inspire after Leonardo handed him a start.

The under-fire coach rested out-of-form Alexandre Pato and veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi, instead starting summer signing from Real Madrid Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and the Brazilian.

Ronaldinho tried to conjure ways into the box but largely looked lost while Netherlands striker Huntelaar, so effective late last season in La Liga, was barely in the game.

In contrast Bari's right-sided midfielder Emanuel Rivas caused all kinds of problems linking with striker Barreto, while Edgar Alvarez was also a threat on the left.

Home keeper Marco Storari denied Leonardo Bonucci with a reflex save from a header while Argentine Rivas saw a pair of shots whistle past the top corner.

In the second half Ronaldinho clipped the bar with a reaction header after away captain Jean-Francois Gillet had parried a long-range swerving Andrea Pirlo free-kick; the goal was gaping for the former Barcelona wizard.

Pato came on and set up his compatriot for a sweet strike that was beaten away by the Belgian keeper, but it was a rare piece of inspiration and 'Dinho' made way for Massimo Oddo, with Inzaghi replacing Huntelaar.

Even the wily Italian could not get on the end of anything, while Bari sub Riccardo Meggiorini's low effort was saved by the legs of Storari and Ignazio Abate could only offer a weak strike for Milan.

Napoli gave some respite to under-fire coach Roberto Donadoni by beating Siena 2-1 at home with a Marek Hamsik double.

A stoppage-time Daniele De Rossi goal earned Roma a 1-1 draw at Catania, cancelling out Japanese striker Takayuki Morimoto's first-half goal. Catania had Gennaro Delvecchio sent off as the match reached a bad-tempered conclusion.

Udinese climbed up to fifth, with Serie A top scorer Antonio Di Natale setting them on their way to a 2-0 home win over Genoa with his eighth goal of the season.

Stuttering Milan, who have seven points, take on promoted Bari at the San Siro later on Sunday.
