Bochum have appointed former Germany striker Heiko Herrlich as their new coach.

The 37-year-old has replaced caretaker coach Frank Heinemann, who took the helm after the dismissal of Marcel Koller in September. Heinemann will return to his role as assistant coach.

Bochum have struggled this season, and currently lie second-from-bottom in the Bundesliga with eight points from ten matches.

Herrlich retired from playing in 2004 and since then has managed the Germany under-17s and under-19s. This is his first club job, and he will become the second youngest coach in the German tiop flight after Stuttgart's Markus Babbel and Mainz's Thomas Tuchel.
