League One - Beckford brace boosts Leeds

Eurosport - Tue, 27 Oct 20:26:00 2009

Jermaine Beckford was on target twice as League One leaders Leeds United beat Bristol Rovers 4-0.

2009 Jermaine Beckford - 0

The striker opened the scoring on nine minutes, turning on to Michael Doyle's pass to shoot past Mikkel Andersen. Sam Vokes added a second with a close-range shot from a 55th-minute cross by Robert Snodgrass.

The unstoppable Beckford wrong-footed Byron Anthony to make it 3-0 with an angled drive on 64 minutes and substitute Tresor Kandol completed the rout with a tap-in three minutes from time.

United were simply in a different class to their hapless opponents who have now lost four games in succession after a bright start to the season.

The closest Rovers came was a 21st-minute volley from skipper Stuart Campbell which Leeds' goalkeeper Casper Ankergren kicked onto his crossbar. The ball bounced down onto the goal line, but did not cross it.

Leeds had plenty of efforts at goal and kept Andersen busy during a one-sided contest which had their 1,600 travelling fans celebrating long before the final whistle.

  2. NOW! This is the Leeds we know and have loved for over 40 years! Bounce back, and how, away after losing just a few days before, Hope Beckford stays. Jermaine can make more of a name for himself. His choice really. He can go to a EPL Club and become the new boy, have to prove himself all over again. Or, he can stay with LEEDS and be part of something big, with his credentials intact!

  3. Unless a Premiership side comes calling Beckford WILL be at Leeds next season - No point in joining a championship side because thats where Leeds will be playing next season anyway ...

  9. Leeds United along with Newcastle United have to have the best fan's in English football!! surely there is no other club who can command 40 000 + crowds outside the premiership!! I think this is the reason fan's from other clubs criticize Leeds and Newcastle.... it is pure jealousy!!
